Wedding Videos – Q & A

I have filmed over 1500 weddings, including at least 30 outside of Canada. What follows below are several pointers to guide you in your search for a Wedding Cinematographer. They have been formulated from my 20 plus years as a very successful wedding cinematographer, gaining most of my clients from word-of-mouth referrals. Weddings, are a once-in-a-lifetime situation. They require an intuitive sensitivity for the situation, and outstanding technical competency. There are no second chances. Brides & Grooms entrust the professional wedding cinematographer with this, the most precious time of their lives, and in doing so a strong partnership is created, if only for a fleeting moment.

Wedding Videos Q & A

Should my wedding be filmed?

You have dreamt about it for a lifetime, planned the day for months, and then – it’s over in a day. ONLY video can capture, in MOTION and SOUND every detail, the vows, your laughter, the speeches and the music. NOT capturing the wedding is the biggest regret expressed by brides, grooms and family members. Couples and their families are delighted with the ability to relive the day, seeing things that they may have missed. A wedding film is not only an overview of your wedding day; it is also a wonderful way of reliving magical moments with relatives and friends who were unable to be there.

Why should I pay for a professional video when friends could do it for free?

Plain & simple… friends and relatives just don’t have the training, experience or the equipment of a professional cinematographer. I have experience with all types of wedding ceremonies and the issues that can accompany them. There is only one chance to get it right. I will set up and capture clearer audio with a wireless lavaliere mic than a well-meaning friend would with a consumer camcorder. Don’t leave a day that you want to remember for the rest of your life to a friend or relative that is capturing it as a favour. Being given this priceless moment, I earn the trust of complete strangers, and in the process enter into very personal relationships with my clients. This relationship might only last several hours, but the results of the relationship will last forever, in your wedding film that you can view and share with loved ones for the rest of your lives.

How much does it cost?

Like your wedding gown, the caterer, the photographer and your rings, there is a wide range of pricing for a wedding DVD. It never ceases to amaze me that in the search for a wedding videographer, very often decisions are made on the basis of price instead of the body of work that the videographer has produced or reputation that accompanies him/her. If there is one thing I can advise you on, price should be the least determining factor. What you should be looking for is the ability to capture this special moment for ever, in a way that you will enjoy viewing those images for the rest of your life. For no matter how small or large your wedding might be, you will remember very few details of your wedding day, it will be a haze in your memory and the only reminder of your wedding will be the beautiful images captured by your invaluable wedding videographer. You will treasure your wedding DVD for years. You will use these images to recall those moments that you cannot remember. The adage is very true that you get what you pay for. Professional wedding video production can range from $1000 to $10,000 depending on the amount of coverage and creative post production you want. Within that range is also a wide range of VALUE between services as well. Brides & grooms know that not all video companies are created equal. Most people will forget a poor meal, a boring DJ, an old limo, or slightly faded flowers. In a week or two, all those problems would fade away. But in the case of your wedding video, it is an INVESTMENT… IMHO a very important one that will provide you years of ROI. A wedding film is usually last on your list before your wedding, BUT 1st on your list the day you get back from your honeymoon! Memories are always undervalued before the wedding, but instantly become priceless after.

How much do you shoot and how long will the wedding film be?

I will do my professional best to deliver a wedding film that will hold your interest throughout the entire viewing. In all cases, I will give you a product that captures your day as well as your attention. Each wedding takes on a life of it’s own. Every couple is different; it’s always been a thrill to capture what is often the most important day of their lives. I’m passionate about delivering a unique finished product that my newlyweds will be proud to share with their family and friends to enjoy for many years. Your wedding film, like a really good movie, should be enjoyable to watch, not only the first time, but again and again.

Do I need both a photographer and a cinematographer?

NO… A wedding film is way more important Wedding Videos Q & A Just kidding… A wedding film isn’t meant to replace photography, only to complement it. While photography captures one selected moment in time, a wedding film provides a complete replay of your wedding, full of sights, sounds & emotions. I honestly feel these two services are the most important things to hire on such a priceless day. In booking packages, decide the importance of each and book accordingly!
